Loris Butterfield

Angels Among Us Mixed Media Original Paintings by Loris textured watercolor paper or crescent board with watercolors, liquid acrylics and colored inks by pouring or stamping using lace, fabric, plastic, paper, cardboard, vegetable sacks, etc. When dry, the textured paper or board was cut or torn into 5” x 7” pieces. These were looked at from all directions to find angel, animal and bird shapes in the textures. Then these shapes were brought out by negative painting around them with acrylics.

Occasionally the lace or fabric was used as collage in the paintings. The paintings were then sealed with a clear acrylic glaze. All paintings are original 5” x 7” attached to an 8” x 10” mat inside a standard 8” x 10” frame. Paintings are priced $60.00 each.

Loris is now with her angels after passing away in April 2013. Following her retirement from being a Registered Dietician in St. Louis County, Missouri and Southwestern Illinois, Loris took up various artistic pursuits at her home in Collinsville, Illinois that included primarily abstract painting. She studied under various masters throughout the US. Mrs. Butterfield’s artwork comes to Shakers by way of her son Bob Butterfield who resides in College park and is a frequent diner at the café.

Lisa

I am passionate about the color, texture and harmony I see everywhere through nature and across every spectrum of the overall human experience. I creatively express myself through many media. Silk is my primary medium of choice—visually soft, intricate and layered, but strong – much like the strength of human connectedness and relationships.

I greet my art with the practice of color theory, applying the studies of the color wheel, color harmony and the context of how colors will be used in my work. These are done in acrylics – 4” x 9” –on paper and then floated on foam core. My hope is that when you experience my art, you are inspired to reflect on the aspects of humanity that move you, and most importantly – you leave with feelings of joy. Thank you, Lisa
